Chris Gurrie

My name is Chris Gurrie and I created FITCOM to share my experience and background with the fitness experts, trainers, and small business owners who help so many of us. Below I will highlight a little of my education and industry experience upon which FITCOM sits.

My integrated marketing communication (IMC) training was at Florida State University where I earned a master's degree from the School of Information and Communication. While in Tallahassee my public relations portfolio included companies like Florida Phosphate and US Cellular. I also hold a bachelor's degree from Purdue University in organizational communication, a master's degree from The University of Tampa in business entrepreneurship, and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern in organizational leadership with an emphasis on communication.

I am a professor of communication at The University of Tampa where I lead the Master of Arts in Professional Communication and Speech Communication Programs. Through my networks, I have talented colleagues and advisors who will help freelance any FITCOM needs for my clients: design, tech writing, marketing, PR, legal issues, contracts, and even business functions beyond my expertise--like cyber security.

This year I am on sabbatical from teaching at the University of Tampa and I am focusing on FITCOM as a project to better understand the combination of fitness and communication. My vision is to conduct social science research for the benefit of the public and its understanding of the communication arts around its practice of fitness. In other words, I want to know more about how effective communication impacts fitness practices and I want to share those findings with others.
